Three Days Before Christmas
Another Morning at The Lake
I wrote my series “Mornings at The Lake” to try to capture the essence of the beauty of life at the lake house in each season. I started it in October of 2017 and wrote something at least one morning per weekend I was here even if it was only a quick poem. I continued each weekend here until Labor Day weekend of 2019. There was at least one entry in each season, but there is a common theme of rest, peace and beauty in each season with a slant to show which season it was.
I decided to stop writing the series after a year because I felt I had captured the essence of each season and felt I would only be repeating myself if I continued.
I was inspired this morning to write another entry in the series but rather as a stand-alone piece:
It’s so different spending weekends here since my family broke up four years ago. There are no little kids making noise and a mess. My husband isn’t here ignoring me. Instead, I’m with a passionate lover. It’s more of an escape from the doldrums of life back home where I live with two young adult sons with unique challenges.
It’s the first full day of winter with the lake is starting to freeze over. The ground is mostly covered in ice and snow.
