I was lounging on the deck in the sun last weekend after a cold, cruel winter enjoying the day when a bird landed on the railing of the deck. It sat for a minute and looked at me with seeming curiosity. Then, it flew away into the trees. It did this about 5 more times, each time sitting closer and more still. Next it perched on the back of my chair. I was startled that a wild creature would venture so close. It flew away, then perched on the arm rest of my chair. It flew around over the top of my head for several minutes. I was aware of the air being disturbed by its wings over my head. It came that close.
The next thing I knew, it landed on my head. It didn’t stay more than a few seconds. Some people have suggested that my hair looks like a bird’s nest. I was hoping it wasn’t planning to nest in my hair. It flew off once then came back and sat on my head for a few more seconds which seemed like a long time because birds aren’t supposed to land on our heads.
Yesterday I was sitting in a different lounge chair on my deck talking on the phone when suddenly I felt a searing, burning pain near my left thumb. I looked up and saw a bee fly away. It seemed like the bee had landed on my hand, stung me, then flew off. Bees aren’t supposed to sting us unless they are provoked or threatened.
Rather than see these events as random collisions with nature, I have decided to frame them as signs that great things are coming my way.
One last thing…
