A Ghosting Mystery
I suspected the reasons he ghosted me were unique to my situation. It was the first and only time I had been ghosted. Of course we never find out why someone mysteriously leaves us in the dust, but we assume they are not brave enough to have an honest conversation about why they don’t want to see us anymore.
Our insecurities naturally come to the fore. I’m not pretty/thin/smart/charming enough. In addition to the usual self doubt, when this happened to me I wondered if it might have been due to the swords and sandals movie I made him watch with me once, or if it was because I fell on the sidewalk in front of his apartment the last time I saw him.
It was a short, shallow affair so the ghosting was not devastating, but simply bewildering. I believe it may have been more so in my case because it’s easy to assume it’s because I have an obvious disability. I walk with a cane and a limp.
We connected on OKCupid shortly after my husband moved out. His position as a building superintendent in the apartments where he lived kept him pretty tied down. I met him in his town for dinner before venturing into his apartment the next visit for dinner there.
