Road Closed

How a Random Detour Led Me Down the Right Road for the Day

I started the day with a decision to focus on the positive. While I waited for some writing inspiration, I made a choice to bring some beauty to the fore and I wrote this:

This seemed to set the tone for my day. I drove the usual route to the barn for my riding lesson, and came upon a big sign that read “ROAD CLOSED” at an intersection which led to a shorter route than the one I had traveled for many years. There was no direction given as to where to go for a detour, only the signs that were blocking the road. My initial reaction was annoyance. The only way I knew to get around this blockade was much longer. I wasn’t sure if I would make it in time for my lesson. Instead of dwelling on the inconvenience and stress, I focused on the beauty of the alternate route.

I had driven down this road for years before I learned of a short cut. I had forgotten how beautiful it was, especially in early spring. It is several miles of stately horse farms with names like “Rocking Horse Farm” and “Tall Oaks”. The trees were…
