Moving On
Predictions By My Husband and My Boyfriend Were Wrong
They made their forecasts for my future on the same day
My husband and my boyfriend often met during the “overlap”; the brief, awkward period when my husband arrived to stay in the marital home with our sons for the weekend so my boyfriend and I could stay in the family lake house which my husband co-opted for his own use when we separated. My boyfriend would come to the house after work on a Friday to get ready to head to the lake.
On this particular Friday, my boyfriend arrived ahead of my husband. I put music on while we were getting ready. “Hey Siri, play The Rolling Stones”. I roamed the house singing along and dancing to songs like “Dead Flowers” and “Honky Tonk Women”.
I was still singing when my husband arrived; something he had known me to do a lot in the 40 years he had known me. We often disagreed on musical selection among other more serious issues such as whether we were going to have a monogomous relationship.
“I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.”
My husband decided we were selling the marital home that fall and set it upon me to find another place to live. I found an apartment in the next town.
