My Words Earned Something Better Than Money
I recently wrote concise, heartfelt responses to two stories by some of my favorite writers here. Their responses were heartfelt, concise and priceless!
Ann’s story chewed me up and spit me out emotionally. My response to her was “Well. Fuck. That.” This can be read as “Well, Fuck” and “Fuck That”. I meant to convey how I deeply felt the heartbreak in the story.
Ann wrote back “I love you, Victoria. Because — yes. Exactly that!”
I will likely never meet Ann Litts, but I love her, too, and sent her my love in a reply.
I read @Vanessa Torre’s account of her existential crisis, and felt the universality of her struggle. All of us deeply doubt ourselves at some point.
I responded to her story with “Be brave. You are more than you know.” Sometimes a few words of encouragement go very far. Words have power.
Vanessa responded with “I love you for this. Thank you.”
I sent a few words to people I only know in a digital world whom I likely will never meet. They both returned the greatest gift to me within a couple of days of each other which means so much more to me than any money I may earn here as a writer.
Thank you for reading :)
