Most of us were terrrified. It was the beginning of the pandemic that came with warnings about this unknown disease that was highly contagious and deadly. The CDC warned us not to intermingle with people who did not live with us.

I live in the state of New Jersey, which was an early epicenter of the outbreak. According to NJ.com, 7,000 people died in the state from COVID19 in April, 2020.

By March 21st, the governor of New Jersey ordered everyone to stay home, and non-essential businesses to close to mitigate the spread of the virus.

It was soon after this lockdown that one of my least favorite friends of my son’s strolled into my house unannounced and unwelcome by me. He had to walk past where I was sitting to go see his friends, my 21 and 23 year old sons.

“Hold it, George,” I said. “We aren’t having visitors in the house at the moment because we are on lockdown. You have to leave right now.”

George was aghast. “Seriously?,” he said.

“I’m serious as a train wreck” was my reply. “You have to leave right now.”

Both sons looked on in disbelief. They were sure I was losing my mind.
