I spent 4 years when my son was in pre-school trying to act “as if” I didn’t have a disability even though I was paralyzed by a stroke in my 6th month of pregnancy 8 weeks before he was born.

At his graduation from pre-school, one of the other moms was astonished when I reminded her of what my son and I had been through the last 4 years.

It felt like all that acting had been effective as far as creating an image of myself as a mom without a disability.
