Sometimes I like to email a link to a story here on Medium.com to my 83 year old mother. She loves to read what I write, but I’m sure she would not always be thrilled with all of the content. I carefully curate what I send to her, and I know with her technology timidity, she will not explore other stories on her own.
So I decided to craft a fictional story I could present as real that would make Mom happy and not cause her to worry more than she does if that is even possible:
I’m still here on Medium.com chronicling the adventure I call my life. I have had very little drama to report. That pesky disability I had that gave me so much trouble has vanished miraculously. My new boyfriend introduced me to an associate of his who is a world reknown researcher in neurology and led me to a cure.
I am no longer dating strange men as I have met the man of my dreams, a New York City plastic surgeon who is taking me to Paris for Christmas aboard his private jet. I’ll send you a postcard. I traveled to his palatial estate in Palm Beach this month where he showed me the groundskeeper’s cottage that would be perfect for you and Dad to live in when I relocate there after the wedding. He has horses for me to ride with a huge barn and an air conditioned indoor riding ring. There is an onsite spa that would be available for you and Dad to enjoy, as well.
We are thinking about an intimate affair in June at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to honor your mother who lived across the street.
Both of my sons have decided to quit their jobs and start college next year. Your grandson Sam’s girlfriend is pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, whom they are planning to name Sadie and Moses to honor your grandparents. I know this may come as a shock, but I think it’s great you and Dad will have the chance to become great grandparents. They may or may not get married before the babies are born, but I’ll be sure and let you know.
I met my boyfriend’s family when I was in Palm Beach and you’ll be delighted to know he has a sister who is around your son Richard’s age and is in recovery from a divorce. She expressed a keen interest in meeting him after seeing his photos on my Facebook page.
In an even bigger twist of fate, I also met his gay brother who is from San Francisco and is about your other son’s age and can’t wait to meet him. Maybe we can have a triple wedding on my boyfriend’s yacht in Palm Beach. You let me know what would be most convenient and enjoyable for you and Dad and we will plan everything around you.
As you can see, my life couldn’t be better. Please don’t worry too much. I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you for reading :)
