I love my people
We learn who our real friends are when the chips are down, for sure. Elective surgery this month has had me off my feet and out of the game. It hasn’t been easy, but the bright side has been learning the value of my “people”.
I am more fortunate than many to have both of my parents and a brother in the state where I live. I have 2 mangnificent grown sons who live with me. My estranged husband is supportive and lives about 60 miles away. I have a kind and supportive boyfriend nearby, as well. I am also very lucky to have true friends in the vicinity.
My great friend Bruce drove me to the hospital the day of the surgery and stayed with me in pre op. My brother brought my mother to visit me in the hospital that night. My boyfriend took a day off from work to take me home the next day.
All of my girlfriends called or texted to check on how I was doing. My best friend Dawn brought homemade lasagna for me even though her brother had been hospitalized at the same time. My boyfriend came over and brought homemade soup.
My sons who are mostly self-absorbed 19 and 21 year old men, went grocery shopping and did a drugstore run.
I didn’t expect to hear from Pete, with whom I have a deeply shallow relationship. Lo and behold, he checked up on me, too. I suggested that he bring me some soup.
In true form, he suggested eggplant soup in the form of a common text that throughout our history meant we would get together for sex. We both knew this was out of the question, but it was in keeping with the true nature of our friendship.
I am filled with love and gratitude this week for all of my people.
